Bold, colourful, expressive, loose, seductive, cheeky and sometimes downright funny are Laurie Lou McKern's paintings. From her small, detailed paintings of amusing situations to her large expressive studies in the fluidity of the female form- you get a real sense of joy when looking at Laurie's works. "As an artist I am inspired by colour and beauty in the simple form of things such as the curves and shadows on a woman's body. I am also inspired by the oddities of life. Life makes me laugh. it can be so silly sometimes, and it can be so beautiful. When I see the funny beautiful or silly side of things I can't wait to pick up my paint brush and capture what I see. I don't limit myself to one way of creating. I prefer to continually experiment and grow trying new styles, mediums and telling new stories". Originally born and trained in Toronto, Canada, Laurie has worked full time as an artist since settling in Sydney in 1990. Laurie's works are in private collections both here in Australia and overseas.
